MS. DIAGNOSED (https://www.msdiagnosedfilm.com/), an intimate and personal documentary about the most urgent public health issue we face – which asks at its core whether we value women – has been accepted to the CineQuest Film Festival (March 3^rd-15^th, San Jose and Redwood City, California) and Women’s Film Festival (March 20^th-29^th, Brattleboro, Vermont). MS. DIAGNOSED uncovers the nearly lethal misdiagnosis of three women due to a faulty system of medicine created by men, for men. The film examines how this system came to be and tries to uncover why it perpetuates. Tracing a political history that attempted to institute changes over 20 years ago, and interweaving the words of doctors and scientists, the film becomes a call to action to empower and engage all of us to demand change to the medical system and advocate for ourselves.

“We are so proud to be included in these two incredible festivals,” says Tricia Regan, the film’s director, producer and cinematographer. “Having this spotlight will bring needed attention and spark a national conversation that will save lives.”

MS. DIAGNOSED powerfully highlights the fact that almost all the healthcare women receive is based on research performed on men, even though almost every disease affects women differently than it does men. And because of a basic inequality in the practice of medicine, women are not getting the lifesaving care they need for almost every condition, including heart disease, the number one killer of women.

“We’ve moved to the next level in getting our message out. Now we need a distributor as passionate and devoted to women’s health as we are, so women – as well as men – everywhere can see and learn from our film,” says Jennifer H. Mieres, M.D., one of the film’s executive producers and a nationally recognized cardiologist. “We want MS. DIAGNOSED to propel a movement that will change the world of medicine.”

The Talent Behind MS. DIAGNOSED

The team behind the documentary includes:

• Tricia Regan, director, producer and cinematographer: Regan is an award-winning filmmaker working in both feature documentary and non-fiction documentary. She is the winner of a Primetime Emmy for Best Documentary for AUTISM: THE MUSICAL. Her work has been premiered at the Sundance and Tribeca Film Festivals.
• Jennifer H. Mieres, MD, executive producer: Author and leading expert in the fields of nuclear cardiology, cardiovascular disease in women and patient-centered healthcare advocacy. She received an Emmy nomination as producer of the PBS documentary A Woman’s Heart and served as the executive producer of the two-part PBS documentary series Rx: The Quiet Revolution and Rx: Doctors of Tomorrow.
• Stacey E. Rosen, MD, executive producer: Author and nationally recognized expert in women’s cardiovascular health, Dr. Rosen is the Partners Council Professor of Women’s Health at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. She also serves as senior vice president of Women’s Health at the Katz Institute for Women’s Health. She is the co-author of the book Heart Smart for Women-Six Steps in Six Weeks to Heart Healthy Living.
• Lori M. Russo, executive producer: Russo is a consultant with a focus on women’s health. She concentrates on projects focusing on women’s health and gender disparities. Recent projects include the two-part PBS documentary series Rx: The Quiet Revolution and Rx: Doctors of Tomorrow. Russo is also a co-author of the book Heart Smart for Women.
