Organized by Reed MIDEM, a subsidiary of Reed Exhibitions, MIPIM, the World’s Leading Property Market, will be held in Cannes from March 10-13, 2020.

Hospitality’s new dynamism

After being regarded as a niche asset class for many years, hotel investment is back on the radar for institutional funds, with JLL reporting that generalist investors are now behind 70% of global hotel deals. A varietyof late-cycle resilience and growth dynamics are being boosted by the travel culture of experience-seeking Millennial and Gen Z consumers along with urban mixed-use trends.

New players are emerging in the creation of hybrid and modular hotels, with brands such as Mama Shelter, Okko and citizenM redefining modern accommodations.

Meanwhile, the hospitality world’s service-led model is being increasingly utilized by other sectors across the real estate industry to attract consumers in a people-centric marketplace. From concierge desks to retail assets and informal lobbies to modern offices, hospitality is also influencing concepts in the expansion of the residential market – from multifamily to senior housing – and shaping the strategies of disruptive trends such as co-living and co-working.

“From its customer-is-king ethos to its architectural cues, hospitality’s client-focused model is inspiring the evolution of many businesses, including the emergence of the space-as-a-service trend. It’s no coincidence that the theme of this year’s MIPIM – ‘the Future is Human’ – also asks how we better serve citydwellers in the evolving real estate paradigm,” said Ronan Vaspart,Director, MIPIM.

Hospitality and Tourism summit

During MIPIM 2020, a closed-door Hospitality and Tourism summit(March 12, 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Martinez Hotel) will give delegates unique access to a range of tools to get ahead in the business. Dubbed THE FUTURE IS HOSPITALITY, this summit will gather CEOs from the major hospitality groups, political leaders, developers and investors to assess the importance of the hospitality asset class and its impact on economies and society.

A keynote from world-famous French designer Philippe Starck will consider the industry’s evolution, while table discussions will range from how cities can create the right conditions for hoteliersto how new types of hospitality enhance real estate. Another panel will tackle co-branded hotels, the new frontier in experiential retail. A CEO wrap-up eventwill see Karin Sheppard SVP & Managing Director, Europe, InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG)go head-to-head with Liam Brown, Marriott’s CEO of Europe.

A dozen dedicated conferences and networking events will also broaden the discussion, covering everything from investment trends to the quest for luxury and innovation to urban development drivers. Exhibitors from Hilton to Accor, brands such as Club Med, B-aparthotels and Colive and business-leaders from firms including PwC and Microsoft will drive the debate. MKG Consulting and MIPIM will reveal the results of the Investment in Hospitality Report on Tuesday, March 10 at 3:00 PM (Beige room, Palais 3).

All of this will take place in a new, premium exhibition area in Palais 3, featuring 1,000 square meters of stands, terraces and demo zones, welcoming Accor, Hilton, Marriott International, IHG, easyhotel.com, Horwath HTL, Tui Hotel & Resorts, Radisson Hotel Group, J&J Teixeira, Ruby Hotels, CityLand, Islandsstofa and more.
