Poughkeepsie Farm Project Hosts High Tunnel Summit Farmer-To-Farmer Training

2/13/19

In keeping with its mission to connect food, farming and community, Poughkeepsie Farm Project recently hosted a High Tunnel Summit Farmer-to-Farmer Meeting at the Environmental Cooperative at the Vassar Barns. The event, organized by Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Eastern New York Commercial Horticulture Program, featured tours of Poughkeepsie Farm Project’s two high tunnels led by Farm Director Leon Vehaba, and drew over 90 attendees from Dutchess, Columbia and Orange counties. Spanish-language translation services, provided by the Farm Hub, made the event inclusive and accessible to a diverse Hudson Valley farmer population. Presenters included Paul and Sandy Arnold of Pleasant Valley Farm in Argyle, NY; Erin Enouen and Sam Zurofsky of Long Season Farm in Kerhonkson, NY; Jeff Arnold of the Hudson Valley Farm Hub in Hurley, NY and Cornell Cooperative Extension Regional Vegetable Specialists Ethan Grundberg, Crystal Stewart, Teresa Rusinek and Amy Ivy. Pictured is Leon Vehaba, Farm Director at Poughkeepsie Farm Project, and Ethan Grundberg, Vegetable Specialist at Cornell Cooperative Extension, leading a tour of winter greens production at the Poughkeepsie Farm Project.
