Equinox To Open At Brookfield Place In Lower Manhattan
Brookfield Office Properties Inc. (BPO: NYSE, TSX) announced that Equinox, the upscale fitness and lifestyle leader, will open a 35,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility at the redesigned Brookfield Place in Lower Manhattan, which is undergoing a $250-million renovation, scheduled for completion in 2014.
Equinox will be a key component in the renovated Brookfield Place with its unrivaled waterfront location, which is emerging as one of the most distinctive and inviting curated luxury retail and dining centers in the region.
Brookfield Place is attracting a defining collection of premiere luxury retailers such as Hermes and Burberry. It will also feature an attractive mix of contemporary retailers including Calypso St. Barth and Michael Kors.
“Equinox, voted best gym in America by Fitness Magazine, complements the unique retail and dining experience at Brookfield Place,” said Ed Hogan, Brookfield’s national director of retail leasing. “Brookfield Place will be the heart of the newest shopping neighborhood in Downtown Manhattan. We are delighted to welcome a world-class fitness center that will attract downtown’s affluent residents and office workers.”
Facing the Hudson River, the club’s fitness floor will offer breathtaking park, river and sunset views. The reception area will feature a juice bar with a unique assortment of cold-pressed juices and healthy food options and a retail shop offering luxury active wear that is both stylish and functional.
“At Brookfield Place, we will provide our unparalleled member experience and innovative fitness programming in a world-class project surrounded by exciting retail and restaurants and very strong corporate and residential demographics,” said Jeffrey Weinhaus, executive vice president and chief development officer of Equinox.
Equinox has a growing portfolio of trophy properties across the United States, as well as international locations in London and Toronto. By opening in Brookfield Place, Equinox aims to meet the needs of a discriminating consumer who demands an innovative and upscale fitness facility.
Equinox negotiated its long-term lease at 225 Liberty Street directly with Brookfield Office Properties. Brookfield was represented by Mr. Hogan and The McDevitt Company. The tenant was represented by John Mears, Equinox’s director of real estate.
Complementing the dynamic shopping offerings at Brookfield Place will be a collection of restaurants and a 25,000-square-foot European-style marketplace, operated by Peter Poulakakos. A 35,000-square-foot dining terrace will house chef-driven casual dining options.
Brookfield Place, an eight-million-square-foot urban campus, has an unrivaled setting, as the complex is surrounded by parks, open space and promenades, the Hudson River and Lower Bay, and is complemented by excellent transportation access.
