Poughkeepsie Nonprofit Adds Nine Beds to its Assisted Living Program

Vassar-Warner Home (VWH), the only nonprofit senior residence in Dutchess County, has expanded its number of assisted living beds by nine, for a total of 15 assisted living beds, which are in addition to the residence’s 43 adult home beds.

Residents of VWH’s state-licensed Assisted Living Program (ALP)—all of whom must meet Medicare and other qualifying parameters—are aided in managing daily chores, as needed, including 24-hour assistance to address personal care needs, as well as access to a newly updated 24-hour, wireless emergency call system; three nutritious meals daily plus healthy snacks and all-day beverage service; on-site wellness services, including primary care, podiatry, pharmaceutical, laboratory, and mental wellness; provisions for physical, occupational, and speech therapies; individual care plans; coordination of medical care and transportation arrangements; housekeeping, linen and laundry services; and scheduled recreational outings.

In New York, ALPs are regulated by the State Department of Health, where residents don’t require continual nursing care, aren’t bedfast or suffer an impairment that endangers the safety of other ALP residents. In addition to the ALP, VWH, which has served seniors for more than 147 years in a caring, home-like environment, also includes an adult home and respite care.

“By expanding the number of beds in our ALP, Vassar-Warner Home is providing more seniors with the support they need to maintain their independence in a warm and caring home,” said Ericka Von Salews, executive director.
