Effort Involves Launch of Child Adolescent Needs and Strengths–NY (CANS–NY) Training & Technical Assistance Institute

Astor Services for Children & Families, which provides behavioral and educational services for thousands of children and their families throughout the Bronx and mid-Hudson Valley, has been named as a member of the CANS-NY Training & Technical Assistance Institute (the Institute), a newly launched initiative of the New York State Department of Health.

As one of four private member organizations of the Institute, including The Collaborative for Children & Families, Hillside Family of Agencies, and Northern Rivers (Parsons Child & Family Center)/SATRI, Astor provides learning programs, coaching and training for treatment planning and monitoring through the Health Home Serving Children (HHSC), a care management program for eligible children.

In addition, the Institute is using data analytics to guide the use of CANS-NY, a tool used to address the mental health of children, adolescents and their families through Health Home care management. The Institute is also seeking other collaborative relationships and will conduct a Learning Needs Survey to identify areas of need within CANS-NY.

“With the launch of the CANS-NY Training & Technical Assistance Institute, eligible children will benefit from an enhanced focus on provider training and other support initiatives,” said Dr. Mary Nichols, Astor Services for Children & Families’ Director of Clinical Outcomes, CANS & TCOM. “Making a difference in the care of children coping with emotional and behavioral issues is at the center of what Astor does and being a part of this important, joint effort allows us to expand on that.”
