DeSimone Consulting Engineers partnered with Bjarke Ingels Group and NJWW Architects on iconic twisting buildings

DeSimone Consulting Engineers, a leading engineering firm with offices worldwide, is pleased to announce that Grove at Grand Bay is awarded 2017 Building of the Year, US Southeast Region by The Architect’s Newspaper. The award recognizes distinct innovation, creative use of new technology, sustainability, and most importantly, superlative design.

Designed by DeSimone in collaboration with Danish architect Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), NBWW Architects, and Terra Group Miami, the twin residential towers are the first twisting towers in the United States and the tallest twisting structure in the Western Hemisphere. The project requiredcomplex structural engineering to achieve the first truly twisting towers that worked structurally, financially and environmentally. DeSimone’s contributions played an essential role in advancing the project, which achieved the first LEED Gold certification for a residential building in Miami-Dade County.

“DeSimone is honored to receive this award for our work on the Grove at Grand Bay,” said Stephen DeSimone, President and CEO of DeSimone Consulting Engineers. “It has been extremely rewarding to participate in the continued innovation and creativity in the Miami region and we are proud to have been involved in this innovative and creative piece of architecture.”

DeSimone has designed numerous high-profile projects in the area, including the Four Seasons Hotel & Tower in Miami; Richard Meier’s Surf Club Four Seasons; Faena Art District with architects OMA and Foster + Partners; Bjarke Ingels’ Grove at Grand Bay; One Thousand Museum (Zaha Hadid’s first skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere); and Moshe Cosicher’s Panorama Tower, the tallest building in Florida.
