General Electric: Financial Engineering And The Sign Of The Times

On Monday, November 13, John Flannery, the new Chairman and CEO got his chance to present his “new vision” for the future of General Electric (GE).

On Tuesday, November 14, my post on his performance was “GE's Flannery: A Lackluster Performance.”

“The performance,” I wrote, “less than stellar.”

The pressure on Mr. Flannery in making this presentation: “As I have argued earlier, the CEO of a turnaround situation basically gets one shot, one chance in the sun, to present his or her vision of what the future might be; one chance to take command of the picture - before leading his or her organization onwards to the achievement of that vision.”
