Ankura announced today that global infrastructure and real estate advisors Barry M. Barovick and Ibrahim Mardam-Bey have joined the firm as senior managing directors. Barovick will be based in New York, and Mardam-Bey will be based in Washington, D.C., both focusing on providing high-value independent business and financial strategies, developing bankable capital market offerings, and creating sustainable and implementable solutions for infrastructure and real estate projects for global enterprises, sovereign entities, financial institutions, governments, investors and family offices.

Kevin Lavin, Ankura co-president, stated, "Barry and Ibrahim's combining their successful track record of assisting global clients with U.S., international and cross-border transactions with our existing world-class capabilities is an excellent start to what promises to be another exciting year for all of us at Ankura, as we work to continue to find new ways to help our clients succeed."

Barovick joins Ankura with over 40 years of experience providing strategic advice to domestic and international corporations and governments, as well as to developers and public and private investors. He has been a C-level executive at both public and private entities, creating successful global real estate advisory, transaction and services platforms, and has significant experience leading large-scale, complex infrastructure and real estate projects.

A few of Barovick's recent projects include development feasibility, a capital raise and public-private partnership structuring for a 750-acre mixed-use sports stadium, retail, residential and high-tech R&D development; a South Asian 2,000-acre "new smart city" conceptual master plan, market feasibility, public-private partnership formation and capital raise; and a capital raise and project management for an 8,000-acre mining operation.

Over the past 27 years, Mardam-Bey has successfully arranged and raised both equity and debt financing for multibillion-dollar projects and private equity funds with his vast experience as an international finance professional and a track record in structuring and placing capital structures that are attractive to investors. He has led several international investment banking and private equity boutiques and has an impressive portfolio of successfully completed transactions around the globe. His experience spans multiple industries and asset types including infrastructure, real estate, energy, oil and gas, and the full spectrum of capital sources including traditional debt instruments, securitizations, private equity and venture capital. He possesses a broad range of unique experience and a proven track record in the international finance, merchant investment banking and participating finance world.

As a published author in English, French and Arabic, he has written on international finance, entrepreneurship, and Islamic banking and has been featured in Euromoney, Banker Middle East, Sukuk Insider and many other publications. Mardam-Bey has received numerous business and professional recognitions and awards for his pioneering work on several international sukuk transactions.

David Sawyer, Ankura senior managing director, added, "The addition of Barry and Ibrahim's global infrastructure and real estate advisory services takes Ankura beyond consulting and into an even broader part of our clients' business life cycles, adding a valuable expertise to Ankura's existing strong offerings."

Barovick said, "We are pleased to be here, bringing our extensive infrastructure and public and private real estate experience to Ankura's impressive expert team. In 2018, we will be focused on collaborating with everyone here to bring our existing and future clients the best solutions to navigating the challenges of industry change, operations, growth, crisis and transformation."

Mardam-Bey added, "Our goal as we build a new global investment and real estate solution inside Ankura is to provide a world-class offering that blends our investment banking and consulting expertise into an offering that gives our clients a unique advantage. The next decade will see a transformation of the infrastructure and real estate asset class, creating unique opportunities that we intend to help our clients both participate in and navigate successfully."
