Alex. Brown Recruits Advisor with $327 Million in Assets from UBS in Midtown Manhattan

Director and client advisor James D. Sheehan, CFP®, CPWA®, has joined Alex. Brown, a division of Raymond James, in the firm’s Park Avenue office in Midtown Manhattan, according to John Sutton, regional executive for Alex. Brown.

“I am thrilled to welcome James to Alex. Brown,” said Sutton. “His sophisticated, client-focused practice is an ideal fit for our firm. I know he will be a terrific addition to the Park Avenue office as we continue to grow Alex. Brown and I look forward to working with James.”

Sheehan came to Alex. Brown | Raymond James from UBS where he managed $327 million in client assets and generated more than $1.1 million in annual fees and commissions. He is joined by sales associate James K. Cestone, and together they operate as The Sheehan Wealth Management Group. A focus of their high net worth practice is serving corporate executives in the oil and gas industries.

“I had been exploring other firms for some time,” said Sheehan, “ and I had four primary requirements of any new firm: first, it had to be client-centric and put the interests of its clients first because, as advisors, we only exist because of our clients – so that was nonnegotiable. Second, the firm had to be financially stable, and Raymond James had proven its strength, from even before the financial crisis. Third, the firm’s cultural values had to fit with mine. As a former active Marine I recognize my life’s purpose is to serve others, and so I wanted a firm that understood that service-first culture. And finally, the technology needed to be user-friendly for my clients, and, frankly, I have been blown away by how great the technology is here at Alex. Brown and how easy it is to use. To date, Alex. Brown | Raymond James has met all my needs, and then some.”

Sheehan began his financial services career in 1997 with Merrill Lynch and joined UBS in 1999 where he held roles as a financial advisor, branch manager, divisional training officer and sales manager. He is a Certified Financial Planner™ professional and a Certified Private Wealth Advisor®. A graduate of Fordham University, he has a bachelor’s degree in economics.

“Being able to attract someone to join our Midtown office with James’ experience and proven track record is important,” said Haig Ariyan, president of Alex. Brown. “He obviously appreciates how the Alex. Brown legacy, enhanced by Raymond James’ reputation and resources, becomes an unbeatable value proposition for high net worth clients seeking financial advice in this market.”
