Darlington, a $48 million historic tour de force outside New York City, recently served as the backdrop for a private preview of the Rolls-Royce Phantom VIII, the motor car company’s recently released luxury icon. Christie’s International Real Estate and its New Jersey Affiliate, Special Properties Real Estate Services, LLC, hosted the private reception on November 8th in tandem with New Jersey-based Paul Miller Rolls-Royce.

Guests at the exclusive gathering in Mahwah, N.J., were treated to an up-close look at the high-tech, all-aluminum automobile, and also granted an in-depth tour of the Darlington estate – one of the country’s most significant historic residences, long praised by architectural enthusiasts as the “American Versailles.” A seven-year restoration and modernization to perfectly meld its architectural significance with the ultimate in luxury living was recently completed on the mansion.

“This event set a new standard for entertaining, showcasing Darlington and the Phantom VIII as luxury assets that are a class apart,” said Dan Conn, Chief Executive Officer of Christie’s International Real Estate. “Standing atop the luxury real estate and automotive worlds, Special Properties Real Estate Services and Christie’s International Real Estate, alongside Rolls-Royce made the lavish evening a memorable event and a unique opportunity to view these two magnificent offerings.”

Modeled directly after the historic Bramshill House in Hampshire, England, which was completed in the 1600s, Darlington was constructed between 1902 and 1907 by the son of railroad magnate, Charles Crocker. The architect of the mansion was James Brite, of McKim, Mead and White, and also Brite and Bacon, the firm whose masters created the original Madison Square Garden in New York City, and American University and the world-famous Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.

“Darlington and the Rolls Royce Phantom VIII both connect the past and future through the highest achievements of passion, talent, art and excellence. They are the best of the best, the result of unique inspiration and the finest craftsmanship,” said Sonja Cullaro, Executive Vice President of Special Properties Real Estate Services.

The estate is on the market through Special Properties Real Estate Services with global marketing provided by Christie’s International Real Estate. The 12-acre residence features 50,000 square feet of living space and a myriad of custom-built amenities, including a library with a 15-foot-high ceiling painted by muralist James Wall Finn, a Great Hall with a rare, 1906 Aeolian Player pipe organ, wine cellar, beauty salon, luxury spa with indoor pool and hammam, theater room and a tennis court.
