New York School for the Deaf (NYSD) recognized Robinson+Cole government relations lawyer Andrew S. Roffe during the school’s 200th Anniversary Celebration on October 5, 2017 at the Tappan Hill Mansion in Tarrytown, NY.

Mr. Roffe is chair of Robinson+Cole’s Administrative Law Group, a cross-disciplinary practice interfacing with all areas of the firm. Its focus is on guiding clients through their interactions with state and local government. Mr. Roffe has a background serving in various government positions, which aids him in his current government relations and lobbying efforts. From 1978 to 1986, he served as Executive Counsel to the speaker of the New York State Assembly. He has also served as the legislative counsel to a former Westchester County executive and as a legislative aide to numerous members of the U.S. House of Representatives.

In receiving the honor, Mr. Roffe was referred to as a “loyal, dedicated, and cherished friend” of NYSD. He has served on the School’s board of trustees, and has provided pro bono counsel and advice throughout his almost 20 year relationship with the School. In addition, Mr. Roffe regularly visits with students to discuss the legislative process.

Established in 1817, NYSD is the oldest school for the deaf in New York State and the second oldest in the United States. The school serves students and their families from birth through age 21 from New York City, the Bronx, Queens, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster counties. The mission of NYSD is to maximize the whole person potential of each student through comprehensive, rigorous educational programs and services within a communication and language-rich environment. NYSD is also committed to serve as an exemplary resource in the education of deaf and hard of hearing students.
