NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Academy Securities, a registered broker-dealer, certified Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise (DVBE), and Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), today announced the addition of Rachel Washburn to its Geopolitical Strategy Team.

Ms. Washburn served for six years in the U.S. Army as an Intelligence Officer. While serving, she deployed twice to Afghanistan; first as a member of the pioneer Cultural Support Team attached to the Special Forces and second as an Intelligence Platoon Leader. Since leaving the Army in 2016, Ms. Washburn continued to pursue a career addressing global security and instability, most recently acting as a regional director with a nonprofit focused on bringing relief in the wake of disasters and armed conflicts.

“Adding Rachel Washburn to the Academy team highlights our commitment to delivering unparalleled Geopolitical Research to our clients and partners,” stated Chance Mims, CEO of Academy Securities.

As an Associate, Ms. Washburn will work directly with Major General (Ret.) James A. “Spider” Marks, Academy’s Head of Geopolitical Strategy, as the Firm continues to expand its Geopolitical Department. Ms. Washburn’s knowledge and hands-on experience will be extremely beneficial to the Firm’s client base.

Ms. Washburn commented on her joining Academy Securities: “I am humbled by the opportunity to join the Academy Securities team. Given our ever-evolving and increasingly connected global environment, it is an honor to contribute to a dynamic and adaptive organization providing innovative services to their clients. As a combat veteran, I look forward to applying my own experience in our increasingly ambiguous and chaotic world to the financial sector in concert with the distinguished subject matter experts on the advisory board.”

“With the addition of another military veteran, Academy continues to ‘lean in’ on our mission of employing returning heroes and offering them an opportunity to embark on a career in the financial services,” said Phil McConkey, President of Academy Securities.
