DKMS Partners with REVOLT

10/11/17

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--International nonprofit DKMS is partnering with music industry leader REVOLT in an effort to reach out to young diverse audiences to educate them about swabbing and joining the bone marrow registry. During the REVOLT Music Conference (RMC), where hundreds of music industry influencers descend on the Eden Roc in Miami Beach October 12-15, DKMS will host several dynamic activations to raise awareness around the need for more young and diverse bone marrow/stem cell donors.

The best patient-donor matches typically occur between individuals who share the similar heritage. Unfortunately, mixed-heritage and minority groups are severely underrepresented on the bone marrow registry. African Americans, for example, make up only 7% of the donor pool and Latinos make up only 11%.

Attracting hundreds of influencers, music executives, songwriters, producers, bloggers and music artists, RMC offers DKMS the opportunity to educate attendees about the importance of becoming a bone marrow donor.

DKMS will host several activations designed to engage RMC’s diverse audience, including a branded basketball court to illustrate the odds patients of different heritages face in finding a match. In addition to their presence at the innovative music industry event, which features artists including Queen Latifah, Lauryn Hill, and 2 Chainz, DKMS content will also be prominently featured on all of REVOLT’s platforms.

“The opportunity to reach a diverse group of young influencers drew DKMS to the REVOLT Music Conference,” said David Tratner, DKMS Vice President of Communications and Marketing. “African Americans and Latinx populations are under-represented on the bone marrow registry, and young people ages 18-30 are the most desired donors by transplant physicians. This partnership with REVOLT, which includes multiple platforms to engage and educate people, is a significant step for DKMS in our efforts to reach under-represented audiences and create more potential lifesaving donors.

"The REVOLT Music Conference is a gathering of influential change-makers that share an unmatched level of passion and enthusiasm,” said Michael Roche, EVP Sales & Partnerships at REVOLT. “Together with DKMS they can turn purpose into action and make a life-changing difference in their communities and beyond."

Unrelated donors are needed for transplants in 70% of the cases of patients suffering from blood cancers or blood disorders. A simple cheek swab is all it takes to register as a potential donor.
