MetaProp NYC, the world’s premier real estate technology nexus, announced today the eight PropTech startups comprising the 2017-18 MetaProp Accelerator at Columbia University. The companies were selected from hundreds of applications received from more than 25 countries.

“Our incoming accelerator cohort is indicative of the increasingly fast global growth and demand for technology solutions across the real estate value chain,” said Aaron Block, Co-Founder and Managing Director, MetaProp NYC. “As the intellectual quality and competition among startups and within the real estate industry increases, we have placed an added emphasis on world-class educational experiences for our cohort this year, using the business and people resources at Columbia University, as well as those in MetaProp’s Flatiron office forum sessions.”

As outlined in a recent MetaProp NYC blog post, the startups selected present a diverse mix of founders who are looking to solve big problems in interesting and challenging areas of PropTech, including smart cities, residential brokerage, tenant advocacy and sustainability. The companies have already garnered investments from Andreessen Horowitz, Cornell Tech, Eric Schmidt's Foundation, Techstars and others.

“This year’s cohort was accepted into the MetaProp accelerator after an exhaustive written, presentation and in-person review process throughout the summer,” said Leila Collins, head of the MetaProp NYC accelerator. “It was inspiring to witness the founders’ creative drive and enthusiasm throughout the process. We look forward to injecting these future PropTech leaders with the entrepreneurial growth hormone that comes from exposure to MetaProp’s educational, business, tech, venture capital and real estate knowledge.”

This year’s 22-week program begins on September 6 and features new mentors, speakers and events, including "Education Excursions" in which the startup founders will visit New York City corporate headquarters to immerse themselves in the culture of major real estate organizations, with whom they would not otherwise interact. In addition, the 2017-18 program will feature "Columbia Venture Fellows," a program run out of Columbia University with three modules that support learning and growth for graduate students interested in venture capital.
