8/8/17

EDISON, N.J., Aug. 08, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters (NRCC) is pleased to announce that Michael D’Agostino, the former Executive Secretary Treasurer (EST) of the Eastern Millwright Regional Council has been re-appointed as the Vice Chairman of the Kean University’s Board of Trustees. D’Agostino, who retired as the Millwright EST in 2012, has served on the Kean University Board of Trustees since 2004, when he was nominated by New Jersey State Senator Ray Lesniak and then Governor Jim McGreevey.

On the Board of Trustees, D’Agostino will continue to be responsible for helping to oversee the daily operations of the University, including financial, facility and positional decisions.

During his 13-year tenure on Kean University’s Board of Trustees, D’Agostino has served as the University’s Chairman of the Facilities and Maintenance Committee, a body that has helped to grow the University’s campus and building infrastructure. D’Agostino helped to negotiate a project labor agreement (PLA) for the campus to utilize union carpenters. This PLA led to the development of more than 100 construction projects at the University in excess of $300 million.

“It’s been my honor to be involved on the Kean University’s Board of Trustees for a decade plus and I was pleased when the University decided to expand its campus using union labor,” said D’Agostino. “The University’s commitment to building union is very important, as union workers have the skills and expertise to build the best facilities in our country. Union carpenters work for reputable companies, make a good salary and have good healthcare and retirement benefits, so they can make a good life for themselves and their families.”

D’Agostino started his career as a union carpenter in 1977 and specialized in millwright and carpentry. He was elected as business agent of Local 715 in 1996 and went on to serve as the Political Director of the Central New Jersey Regional Council in 1998. In 2001, he was appointed Business Manager for newly formed statewide Millwright Local # 715. In 2005, D’Agostino was appointed Director of Specialty Trades for the New Jersey Regional Council. He was the 2nd Vice President of the New Jersey Regional Council in 2007 and 1st Vice President in 2009, until he was elected as EST of the Eastern Millwright Regional Council.

“Michael served as a proud Union carpenter for 35+ years from his time working in the field to his work later in 1990s and 2000s in representing union carpenters across the East Coast,” said John Ballantyne, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the NRCC. “His efforts at Kean University are commendable and we thank him for ensuring that our union carpenters in Northern New Jersey can utilize their skills and expertise on projects in the community where they live.”
