KMH Leads Upgrade to New York Giants' Production Facility

7/6/17

KMH Audio-Video Integration today announced it has successfully implemented the next phase of a major technology integration project at The New York Giants football organization, transforming the team's audio-video support services into a world-class production facility with integration to MetLife Stadium. Sports production requires repurposing and distributing content as efficiently and accurately as possible. The system upgrades will allow the NY Giants to do just that with the new Snell Advanced Media Pyxis router.

KMH is leading the upgrade housed at the Quest Diagnostics Training Facility at Giants' headquarters, East Rutherford, New Jersey. The facility provides various services, including a studio and control room for the team's pre-game, postgame, feature, training-camp, and press-conference shows, as well as year-round digital and social content for a variety of productions.

Since the initial upgrade just prior to the start of the 2014-2015 season, the Giants have been adding new capabilities that include increased interconnectivity to the stadium and additional graphics and playback capabilities, all supported by Snell Advanced Media's (SAM) multi-format Pyxis router. SAM is a partner of KMH.

The upgrade simplifies operations between the MetLife Stadium and the nearby production facility, enabling excellent audio and video quality, including playback of game highlights, live interviews and other installments.

The installation enables the Giants to achieve a 50 percent increase in production operations and content distribution, complementing improvements to the control-room systems, delivering better communications with the field and highlights playback.

"We are extremely pleased with the technical and business flexibility the system provides," said Don Sperling, Vice President/Executive Producer New York Giants. "As a result, we are now able to set a new standard in delivering timely and impactful content to our fans and the National Football League as a whole."

The Giants had a specific need to support analog audio and timecode as well as RS422 machine control commands, which few industry routers offer. The user-friendly control system and panels of the SAM Pyxis router provide a significant operational advantage. Production staff found the operational panels and interface to be extremely easy to use and could support a show just one day after the system was tested and commissioned.

All of this required a quick turnaround and minimal disruption to the intricate technology systems in place at the Giants' headquarters.

"We started the project on a Friday afternoon and by end-of-day the following Monday, the entire system was up and running," said Kevin Henneman, President, KMH Audio-Video Integration. "We pre-tested, pre-programmed and pre-wired the system at our facility in Holbrook, NY, and ensured it was 100 per cent ready to operate before it left our facility."

The new technology deploys a standardized platform that supports future expansion. SAM's Pyxis multi-format, compact routers deliver larger capacity in a more compact footprint and are configured to support 72x72 HD/SDI signals, 72x72 stereo audio and 32 RS-422 ports.

Ed McGivern, VP, North American Sales, SAM said, "Protecting technology investments is key to our customers. SAM technology is built from the ground up to deliver flexibility, scalability and a clear roadmap, allowing them to easily adapt to these changes with minimal disruption to their workflow."
