Community Mural Beautifies Brownsville Mental Health Clinic

6/8/17

The Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services (The Jewish Board) and Groundswell teamed up to beautify the Brownsville Child Development Center with a powerful mural. The mural, which sends a message of hope and growth to the children and families the clinic serves, and to the community, was painted by students of Groundswell, an organization that brings together artists, local youth, and community organizations to use art as a tool for social change.

The 25' wide by 11" tall mural took six months to complete and now decorates the front of the Brownsville Child Development Center-the first mental health clinic in Brownsville for children from birth to age 5. The Center was developed by The Jewish Board, NYC's largest provider of mental health services, in partnership with almost 30 local child-focused Brownsville programs.

David Rivel, CEO of The Jewish Board, and Tonia Spence, Senior Director of Early Childhood Services at The Jewish Board, attended the ribbon cutting, as well as Groundswell Project Manager, Alyssa Hollins, and Lead Artist, Danielle McDonald.
