Leading construction attorney Robert S. Peckar, Founding Partner of national construction law firm Peckar & Abramson, P.C., has been named to the inaugural Legal 500 Hall of Fame (2017).
The Hall of Fame highlights individuals across various legal disciplines that have been consistently praised by clients for excellence in their areas of practice. Issued for the first time in 2017, the Hall of Fame will highlight attorneys in private practice who are at the pinnacle of their profession. Elements of Legal 500’s selection criteria include recognition by the publication as an elite lawyer for six consecutive years. Widely recognized as one of the country’s leading construction lawyers, Bob Peckar has built an accomplished career serving the construction industry and bar. For four decades, he has represented general contractors and construction managers throughout the United States and the world, earning a widespread reputation for his legal acumen, energetic representation and creative approach to solving the most complex and challenging problems faced by his clients and the industry at large. In that regard, he was among the pioneers of creative dispute avoidance and dispute resolution techniques in the construction industry.
Peckar’s unparalleled level of service to the construction industry is exemplified by his tenure over many years as General Counsel to the New York Building Congress (NYBC), where he is currently General Counsel Emeritus, the Building Trades Employers’ Association of New York (BTEA), the Building Contractors Association of New Jersey (BCANJ) and the national Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA). In addition, he has contributed his efforts to educational programs for the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC), the American Arbitration Association (AAA) and many other organizations throughout the United States.
Service to the construction bar has always been an important element of Peckar’s dedication to the betterment of the construction industry. He has been an active member of the construction-related sections of the American Bar Association (ABA), and has presented papers and programs at bar association events in the United States and abroad throughout his career.
Peckar is a Fellow of the American College of Construction Lawyers (ACCL), where he has chaired its ADR and International Law Committee. In addition, for seven consecutive years from 2012 to 2005, he was awarded the distinction of Leading Construction Lawyer in the World by the International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers.
Peckar is admitted to practice in the State of New Jersey, State of New York, United States Supreme Court, United States Courts of Appeals for the Third, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Circuits, United States Court of Federal Claims, and United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York and the District of New Jersey. He received his J. D. degree from Columbia Law School and his Bachelor of Arts degree from Rutgers University.
