Grant Thornton’s New York Office Admits Three New Partners and Principals

Grant Thornton LLP admitted David Howard and Ryan Maupin as Advisory principals and Nishit Mehta as Audit partner and promoted Adam Bareham, John Batt, Shlomo Lang and Frank Russo to managing director in the firm’s New York office. Across the firm, Grant Thornton admitted 47 new partners and principals and promoted 29 professionals to managing director. 

Partners and principals admitted to the firm are proven leaders that have demonstrated excellence in embracing the firm’s values and helping clients achieve smart, quality growth in all aspects of their businesses. Noted for their exceptional contributions to Grant Thornton, these experienced professionals demonstrate a great ability to build relationships with clients and people at all levels of the firm. Managing directors are the highest-level employee position in the firm and are important members of the firm’s leadership team.

Howard joined the firm in 2011 and has more than 10 years of specialized experience in hospital and ambulatory operations performance improvement including turnaround advisory and interim management. Prior to being admitted as a principal, Howard served as a senior manager in the firm’s Healthcare Advisory Services practice.

Howard is a Board Member of the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health and the Newtown Memorial Fund. He received a master’s of business administration in finance from the University of Illinois, a master’s of public health from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of New Hampshire.

Having worked for Grant Thornton from 2006 to 2010, Maupin rejoined the firm in 2013 and has nearly 15 years of experience in restructuring and financial advisory roles. He has served as interim CEO to an oil field valve, pipe and fittings distribution company and its subsidiary, and an oil well casing services business, during their respective Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases. Prior to being admitted as a principal, Maupin served as a director in the Corporate Advisory & Restructuring Services group. 

Maupin is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Turnaround Management Association and the Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Advisors. Maupin received a bachelor’s degree at Millikin University.

Mehta joined the firm in 2008 has more than 15 years of public accounting experience. He specializes in advising private and public real estate companies on matters of accounting and financial reporting. Prior to being admitted as a partner, Mehta was a managing director in the New York Metro practice.

Mehta is a certified public accountant (CPA) and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts. He received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from North Carolina State University.

Bareham joined the firm in 2014 and has more than 20 years of experience serving the financial services industry. He has extensive experience in the structuring and valuation of securitized products including agency and non-agency mortgage-backed securities, auto loans and leases, student loans, reverse mortgages and franchise loans. Prior to being promoted to managing director, Bareham served as a director in the firm’s Forensic and Valuation Services practice.

Bareham received a master’s of business administration from the University of Michigan and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Manhattan College.
 
Batt joined the firm in 2013 and has more than 20 years of experience serving financial services organizations in operations, marketing, product development and sales leadership. He coordinates the delivery of all services, including internal and external audit, federal, state and international tax, as well as business risk, transaction advisory and business and technology consulting. Prior to being promoted to managing director, Batt served as a regional sales leader and key account executive. 

Batt serves on the Executive Leadership Committee for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and is a member of the Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ Board of Education. He received a master’s of business administration degree in finance and information systems from New York University and a bachelor’s degree in history from Amherst College.

Lang joined the firm in 2012 and has more than 15 years of experience providing valuation and financial advisory services to public and private enterprises. He specializes in the valuation of businesses, business interests, securities and intangible assets for financial and tax reporting, transactions, restructuring, fairness opinions, and other corporate and litigation related matters.  Prior to being promoted to managing director, Lang served as a senior manager in the firm’s Forensic and Valuation Services practice. 

Lang is an accredited senior appraiser and a member of the American Society of Appraisers. He received a master’s of business administration in accounting and finance from Fordham University. He also holds a master’s degree in applied economics and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Tel Aviv University. 

Russo joined the firm in 2010 and has nearly 15 years of public accounting experience. He provides comprehensive tax services to both domestic and international companies, including income tax review and preparation for a variety of corporate tax clients. Prior to being promoted to managing director, Russo served as a senior manager.

Russo is a CPA in New York and a member of the AICPA and the New York State Society of Public Accountants. Russo received master’s degree in accounting and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Saint John’s University.
