Wednesday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average finished the day up 0.2%, the NASDAQ up 0.5%, and the S&P 500 up 0.3%. New York's prominent stocks closed up 0.3% to finish with the market.

Biggest Gainer

In New York, Citigroup Inc. (NYSE:C) closed at $34.23 (+3.5%), making it Wednesday's biggest gainer. With 49.4 million shares changing hands, the stock traded at 1.2 times its average volume over the past three months. Aol Inc. (NYSE:AOL), another big gainer, rose 2.1% to finish at $18.17 on volume of 1.4 million.

Biggest Loser

Aeropostale Inc. (NYSE:ARO) was Wednesday's biggest loser, closing down 1.7% to finish at $16.59. Changing hands at 0.6 times its three-month average, the stock traded on volume of 1.4 million. Another stock that was hit hard was Hess Corporation (NYSE:HES), dropping 1.2% to close at $60.46 on volume of 6.3 million.
