Timing good as home lending picks up steam for credit union
Kendall, Fla. -- Tropical Financial Credit Union, one of South Florida's largest credit unions, has opened a new lending center in Kendall. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Wednesday, February 1st to dedicate the new branch, located at 13250 SW 120th Street in the London Square Mall. The center is set up to originate and process new loans and provide account maintenance for credit union members living in the area. Consumers can pay a visit to join the credit union provided they are simultaneously applying for a loan. Traditional banking services will be provided for members through a check image enabled ATM and by way of an online banking center inside the branch.
"We opened this branch to make things more convenient for our members living in southwest Dade," said Richard Helber, president/CEO of Tropical Financial. "Supporting and responding to our members' needs is the number one priority at the credit union."
Tropical Financial offers an array of mortgage products and commercial and consumer loans including those for automobiles, personal lines of credit and credit cards. The new branch opens at a time when the demand for mortgages has picked up significantly in Miami-Dade.
"In Miami-Dade, we tripled the number of mortgage applications last year compared to 2010 and quadrupled the amount of money we loaned out," said Helen Mc Giffin, chief lending officer. "We're expecting that trend to continue in 2012, especially as the federal HARP 2 program takes effect making thousands more people eligible for refinancing."
The new branch will be managed by Nahola Mills who has 10 years' experience working in the banking industry. Six-year Tropical Financial veteran Silvia Martin is the loan officer and Debra Wilson, who's been at the credit union 23 years, will serve as the personal financial representative.
