Monty Python member Eric Idle could be seeking a different kind of Holy Grail.
Idle's new comedy, titled 'What About Dick?' and starring comic actor Russell Brand, raised $700,000 of a targeted $1 million equity offering.
The play is scheduled for a one-off run in Los Angeles in April. The current SEC filing, however, named New York producer Arnold Engelman of WestBeth Entertainment, LLC as a managing member and the signer of the filing. WestBeth staged a workshop version of the play in 2007. Engleman's participation could suggest that the funding for the production could include a New York run.
Formed in 1977, Engelman's Westbeth is a producing organization and catalyst that has offered such performers as Eddie Izzard, Billy Connolly, Mike Myers, and Margaret Cho.
The filing also names John Goldstone, British producer of the Monty Python series and other films.
Brand will be making his theater debut in the play. The cast also includes Eddie Izzard, Jane Leeves, Sophie Winkleman, Tracey Ullman, Tim Curry and Billy Connolly. The four-performance stint will run from April 26 to 29 at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles.
