BOSTON -- Kandessa Media, a company founded by a restaurant professional, for restaurant professionals, to inform and inspire industry peers with inside-the-industry news, announced Eatery Pulse Vol. 2. The publisher of Quick Serve Leader, a webzine with a monthly readership of more than 3,000 readers, said it had merged the Eatery Pulse Boston print publications with Eatery Pulse New York, to launch one, consolidated issue for more than 4,000 independent restaurants in the cities of Boston and New York.
“When we looked at the scale of what we could do, and the efficiencies that could be achieved, the decision was fairly simple," said Rick Zambrano, managing publisher,Eatery Pulse. "The beauty is that we virtually doubled the circulation of upcoming issues for each zone, and held our prices steady. The real winners are our advertisers."
Eatery Pulse is Kandessa's first publication for independent eatery and chain management. On the heels of a successful launch of Volume 1 in Boston, Kandessa is doubling its readership with this upscale, multi-segment series, specifically targeted for the Northeast.
Kandessa Media's Quick Serve Leader doubled its readership in November, and now the Eatery Pulse series will more than double the readership again for the upcoming March/April issue to be released in late February. "Each time we reach a new set of readers, our content and platform really benefit," said Zambrano.
"We get pitched more interesting stories, our readers gain access to more intelligence, and more advertisers approach us. It's a win-win, and we're happy to go through it once again."
Eatery Pulse is also donating eight percent of all revenues of its Vol. 2 issue to two nonprofit industry and food-related organizations.
Kandessa Media's readers will pick from a short list for half the pool, and the remainder will go to the Massachusetts ProStart School-to Career program. The program, which is run by the Massachusetts Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, just picked its winner, Carver High School, to advance to the National ProStart Invitational in Baltimore.
"We are an independent grass roots organization. Our team has previously walked for Alzheimer's and now we're taking a big stand for the future culinary rock stars of this next generation," says Zambrano.
The late spring issue (Vol. 3) will have a set aside for a New York Industry educational program, and Kandessa management is currently working through the options.
Kandessa Media, a regional foodservice publisher focused on the Northeast Corridor of the United States, will be following regional ProStart news all the way to the National Restaurant Association's International Foodservice Marketplace event (NRA Show 2012) in Chicago.
Zambrano also said that the company was finalizing two distribution deals to increase the circulation and exposure for advertisers, and for the benefit of a greater audience in the cities of Boston and New York. The company would not release specific information related to the deals, citing competitive reasons.
"The deals will bring more benefit to those suppliers and solution providers that locked in on our low prices, some below $400, per issue, nearly unheard of for a major industry print publication," added Zambrano.
Kandessa Media said it was honored to have the ongoing support of its advertisers, who sponsor a continued offering of free, premium news and insights to industry managerial readers.
